My Mom Flies

Military Fly Moms Sharing Memories, Building Legacies, Inspiring Hope

Soon to be published, My Mom Flies is designed to be a coffee table/photo essay book of the inspiring true stories of more than seventy women who shared the same two dreams-becoming aviators in the military, and being moms. From being the first few women who, decades ago, took their place in the world of all-male military aviators and paved the way for other women to follow, to flying rescue missions during Hurricane Katrina, to flying in combat during the current war on terror, these gutsy women have done it all.

Their tales are of little girls looking to the skies amid dreams of soaring overhead; of young women hesitantly realizing they could become pilots as well as flight attendants; of young moms juggling flying schedules at odd hours but making time to read bedtime stories to their little ones. The women encourage those who balance career and motherhood, give encouragement to those considering careers in the military or aviation, and offer advice to young people on pursuing their goals and dreams.

Each story is accompanied by inspiring photos-from old black-and-whites to present day, full color-of aviator women in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air National Guard alongside their helicopters and jets, and other military-related family photos.

These stories and photographs are uniquely different, but together they weave a beautiful tapestry which tells a bigger story and passes on a lasting legacy to inspire moms and future generations to reach for their dreams.
